It’s always a strange experience interacting with people completely uninterested in computers. Especially after being at school where my friends are all CS folks. Less true when working since I come home to either my boyfriend who didn’t even have an email address when we started dating or my family, who while tech savvy for the most part, don’t care to the extent I do.
I’ve been thinking what to do with the computers I have and the fact that I will be replacing them. I’ve been conflicted because everything still runs. I just want, and on this topic this feels completely selfish, newer and faster computers.
Don’t know why what to do didn’t dawn on me earlier. After all, back at school I work for the Community Technology Enhancement Program which gives donated computers to of need individuals in DePauw’s surrounding community. It took me watching a corny video at OneWebDay to remember I could donate my computer to someone who doesn’t have one. Especially my laptop. Because then, even if they don’t have internet in their home, they could go to the library or any place that has free Wi-Fi. Granted, I’d like to figure out the battery issue since a laptop with no battery seems like a rather shady donation.
Except then I’ll be back in the boat of not needing a new computer. Man, I’m all over this place on whether or not I’ll be buying a new computer.
