Google Apps and Google Accounts

I love Google Apps for the fact I can use my personal email address and not have to pay for the space. What I don’t love is the lack of complete integration between Google Apps and my Google Account. Since I use Google Apps for personal purposes, I want full integration when I link up a Google Account. As in Google Apps take priority.

Alas, this isn’t the case. When I email a link from Google Reader, the receiver sees my Gmail email address. When I’m logged into any non-Google App application (some folks refer to these as personal applications with Google Apps application being labeled as business applications), I see either my Gmail email address or my Google Account username as my identifier. As long as you keep your Gmail account, you can’t change your primary email for your Google Account. Lame.

I did realize today that I need to activate chat for my Google Apps domain to see it in my Google Apps email. Somehow I managed to disable that close to a year ago.
